Paintless Dent Repair in Fontana, CA
Paintless dent repair, or PDR, removes dents by working them out from behind the panel, so the factory paint stays in place and no refinishing is needed. Royal Collision Center uses it at our shop on Foothill Blvd in Fontana whenever the dent and the paint allow it.
What Is Paintless Dent Repair?
Paintless dent repair, often called PDR, is a way to remove dents without repainting the panel. A technician reaches behind the dent with specially shaped tools and works the metal back out a little at a time. Light reflected across the panel shows where to push.
Because nothing is sanded, filled or painted, the factory finish stays in place. At Royal Collision Center it is our first choice for any dent it can fix. When a dent is beyond it, we say so and use body work instead.
Why Paintless Dent Repair Matters in Fontana, CA
Most dents in Fontana are small: a door swung open in a busy lot, a cart rolling into a fender, a ding at a gas station on Foothill Boulevard. They leave the paint unbroken. Those are exactly the dents PDR was made for.
Keeping the factory paint matters here more than most places. The strong sun of the Inland Empire changes a car's color over the years, and new paint has to be matched to that. With PDR there is nothing to match, so there is no panel that looks different.
When to Consider Paintless Dent Repair in Fontana, CA
Consider PDR whenever a dent has unbroken paint and is not on a sharp edge. The sooner the better, because a dent can crack its paint over time as the panel heats and cools. Once that happens, paintless repair is off the table.
It is also a good choice before you sell or lease-return a car. Small dings cost money at trade-in. PDR removes them without any sign of a repair.
Signs Your Dent Suits Paintless Dent Repair
These signs mean paintless dent repair may be the right fit:
I have a round dent and the paint isn't cracked
That is the classic case for paintless repair.
There are dings on my door or fender
Small dings in flat panels often come out cleanly.
Hail left small dents on the roof
Hail dents with unbroken paint often suit PDR.
I want to keep my factory paint
PDR leaves the original finish untouched.
How Our Paintless Dent Repair Works
Every PDR job follows the same steps:
- Step 1: Call (909) 347-6911 or request a quote, and send a photo of the dent if you like.
- Step 2: Bring the car in for a free estimate, and we check the paint, the metal and the access behind the panel.
- Step 3: We tell you whether PDR will work before any work begins.
- Step 4: Once you approve, we work the dent out and get you back on the road.
How the Dent Comes Out
The technician gets behind the dent through an opening in the panel, or by removing trim or a lamp. Using long tools and a light that shows the panel's surface, they press the metal back from behind. Many small pushes return it to its shape.
Some dents are pulled from the front with glue tabs that come off without harming the paint. A final tap-down levels any high spots. The result is a flat panel with its original paint.
The Limits of Paintless Repair
PDR cannot fix every dent, and we would rather say so up front. Cracked or chipped paint, stretched metal, very sharp creases and dents on stiff edges or seams usually need conventional repair. So do dents where the tools cannot reach behind the panel.
When a dent is beyond PDR, we repair it with body work and refinish the area. Our Dent Repair page explains how we choose. Sometimes PDR does most of the work and a small refinish finishes it.
Dings, Hail and Creases
Door dings are the most common PDR job, and our Door Ding Repair page covers them. Hail dents with unbroken paint are another, often dozens on one car, as our Hail Damage Repair page explains. Soft creases can come out too, depending on their depth.
Each type is judged on its own. We look at the paint, the metal and the access, then tell you what will work. That is how you get the right repair, not just the cheapest one.
